Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the end of slavery. It dates back to 1865, when Union Soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas with the news of the end of war and that all slaves are free. Juneteenth is a commemoration of African-American freedom as well as a celebration of culture and self-determination. It is a time for education and a time to reflect and rejoice.
